John and I recently took a road trip back up to Minnesota! While it was (again) a long drive, it was well worth the visit with family and friends. It was really enjoyable to stay at our own little townhome for the week...
Some highlights from our mini-vacation:
-John enjoyed spending time with cousins/family from Washington who were also in town
-Campfire, and movie night with the Sodergrens
-Abbey got a bit of girl time in with friends and sisters
-Big picnic at Grandma Ruters house with the Tiemanns
We also had some commitments with a funeral for Grandma Ruter while we were in MN, but it was still able to be a joyous time. Grandma knew Jesus and was ready to go home.
Our next trip is tentatively planned for Christmas time... Which really isn't that far away, only 3.5 months! (Wow, time flies.)
In Oklahoma news, not much is new. The weather is continually hot, though it does cool off in the evenings a little more now.
In our Sunday School group we have now divided into smaller, more intimate groups for the fall, in hopes that people will be more open and willing to share. I am now the email coordinator for our little group.
John's work continues in the sunshine. He comes home so filthy and full of concrete and reddish dirt, that I give him a quick welcome home kiss and send him straight to the shower. I'm grateful that he's such a hard worker.
Chick-Fil-A is still my place of employment, and in addition to my meager hours each week, I've been busy reading a new book series, and organizing my life. Busy week coming up!
We are so content and happy, in love with each other and our Lord...

Summer Happenings
It's been a bit, but I promise we are still alive and well! :)
I did have an excuse not to blog for a while, due to the fact the computer decided it was not going to work anymore. We went almost a month (can you believe it) without having a computer. THank goodness for smartphones?! Anyways, we are very grateful that a friend came along who was selling just what we wanted in a new one. Again, we are the owner of a macbook laptop. Yay!
As far as life goes, we have been surprisingly busy as of late.
We've made some new and very sweet friends lately. While it took a while to get to know couples from our Sunday School class in that environment, we decided to step it up... Our friends Phil and Elissa decided with us that we should have a "game night". Since they have a little guy, we went to their house and played for a couple hours after his bedtime. I'll be honest, we played Xbox for hours that evening. But it was fun to spend some time with them. We've now turned "game night" into a weekly weeknight event. Cards, Wii golf, snacks, and laughter all included.
The other dear friends we have are Josh and Darah. These two are a bit closer in age, and have no children yet, so we have found much in common. Went on a double date night to an italian place a couple weeks ago- We enjoyed their company quite a bit and opted to drive over to their home for another hour after dinner to talk. So far we are making plans for going rappelling in the mountains with them, and playing frisbee golf in the park. Darah and I had a coffee date a few days ago, and had such a nice visit.
John is working hard. The weather has been quite awful for outdoor work though. I really admire his grit and stamina for hanging in there. Both of us hope his project gets some walls up soon! With some of the rainstorms lately the air is very humid, and consistently above 100 degrees during the day. I'm not sure either of us could get anymore color (tan) than we already are.
We are heading to Oklahoma City tomorrow for an outing. Hoping to see the war memorial in town, and check out the local shopping. John heard there is an amazing gun shop, and an Oakley Vault. I'm sure he'll be happy. I'm just glad that we can do something this weekend. Sometimes it can be slow on the weekends for us, as it's not even fun to be in the pool with 30 other people. :P
We are consistently amazing by the love the Lord shows us in the simple ways he provides, and have some some great evening chats about this recently. (Been trying to take a walk in the evenings despite the heat, and it provides wonderful deep discussion opportunities.)
Love you all! Until later

Visitors!
We have been enjoying a short string of visitors these last couple weeks! It's really sweet of family to drive all the way here to say hello. :)
David and Briana stopped in for an afternoon on their way home from Texas. The boys were glad to stretch out I think. We grilled brats and hotdogs for a late lunch, and then went and took a short tour of town and the Army base. We enjoyed catching up with them, the family, and hearing the news from up in MN.
Then this last weekend my Mom, Erin, Emma, and Brielle came for a while. They stayed in a nearby hotel from Thursday to Monday. It ended up being a VERY hot weekend. Hottest it had been since I was here even... We made the best of it though, even went exploring in the mountains in 104 degree heat. We all got some nice sunburn lines from our tank tops. I enjoyed going over to the hotel and using the pool with the girls- since my outdoor one has yet to open. John and I took the fam to church on Sunday, and we all went out to eat at a cute mexican place afterwards.
The ladies had planned on leaving Monday afternoon, however, due to some very severe weather and thunderstorms developing they opted to stay one more night, in our apartment! Thank goodness they stayed though, that horrible Moore tornado would have been right on their route home!!!
They got up early Tuesday to head home, but ended up staying an extra hour, because of another thunderstorm. Haha. We had a nice time.
In a couple more weeks I will have a couple of my girlfriends from MN roadtrip down to visit as well! I do feel quite loved and thought about.
John is still hard at work. Though I feel terrible that he has to be out in the hot hot sun while its getting so warm. This week will be Mid-80s. :/
Thats it for now!

Life As Usual
So I started my job at Chick-Fil-A! So far it's been going very well, though I can't even believe how busy that place can be during lunch hours. I've learned how to make their sweet tea and lemonade, bag and deliver orders, and take orders on the drive through. So much still to learn, but I like to think I'm catching on quickly. For being a 'fast food' place, the restaurant is very clean, and the service is quick and professional. I think I'm going to enjoy it. :)
The weather has been consistently getting warmer. This week will be in the 80's! I keep thinking it would be so nice to go out and swim in the pool (which is still not open), and then I dip my toes in the water, and I'm reminded that it's not heated. Brr!
John worked a little side job this last Saturday, so after church on Sunday he decided he wanted to go spend some of his extra earnings. We found him a really nice Oakley polo shirt for this summer. Looks really nice on him. Of course, this is me, and I think most everything looks pretty nice on him.
Life goes on in Oklahoma, normal life- just a different place. I love it. :)

Worky, Worky, Worky...
It's Abbey- Updating on yes, you guessed it, work life!
First of all, please pray for John and his work. His company is trying to put him on a different job down here in Oklahoma, that he did not originally plan on. This would be fine, except that the wage is much lower, and on that job our housing does not get paid for. It's just a teeny bit stressful for us, trying to make sure that Willmar Electric realizes what is going on here.
And.... the 'big news'! I found a job! :) Chick-Fil-A here in Lawton called last night and said they'd like to hire me. I was somewhat surprised, as I had only dropped off my application that same morning, and had a brief chat with a manager. That afternoon they called and asked me to come in for a more official interview. When I arrived, there was 20-25 other applicants all there as well. Feeling a bit overlooked and disappointed, I did my interview with a second manager, and that evening got a call. It's pretty neat how that all worked out. Apparently I made an impression on them.
Now, I realize that some folks may have aversions to working in the fast food industry... and while I understand where they are coming from, I'm pretty excited for this. I will be able to stay busy, meet and greet people, and work in a fast paced and delicious environment. Just fine by me! So, I have orientation today- and start working shortly after that!
I'm honestly pretty glad that the physical therapy position I applied for didn't work out, because I just have much more peace and 'happies' about this opportunity. The owner of this restaurant is a sweet christian man that we met through church, and I'm thrilled to work for a christian company with high morals and standards.
